The National House Building Council (NHBC) is the UK’s leading independent standard-setter and provider of warranty and insurance for new homes.
With the HQ in Milton Keynes, NHBC employees a large number of people in this office alone, so cleanliness is key in creating a welcoming and productive working environment.
It’s now 12 years since we won our first three-year cleaning contract for the headquarters – a fact that rather speaks for itself. At every subsequent re-tender, Glenn has retained the contract, reflecting an excellent service record and outstanding value for money.
Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the NHBC were happy to tell us what they think about the service we provide. We asked Carl Wyldbore, Facilities Technician at NHBC, what might account for the lasting success of our 12-year relationship:
Q: What makes a good cleaning service so valuable to your business?
A: It’s more than just the physical fact of a clean, hygienic environment, although that certainly matters to the staff who work there every day. Clean offices send a signal that we care about what we do, and how we conduct ourselves. And because standards are the very reason for our existence, they’re doubly important here.
Q: What cleaning services does Glenn provide?
A: They keep the offices spic and span – they’re almost like ghosts, you hardly see them but the results are terrific! Then they clean the windows, which is an endless task, like painting the Forth Bridge. They also look after the kitchen filters and the showers, which are vital to the health of our workforce.
Q: What makes you so enjoy working with Glenn?
A: It’s a pleasure to witness the efficiency and expertise of the management – you just have complete confidence in their ability to do the job consistently and well. And part of that is hiring and training great people, which they seem to have a real knack for.
Q: What would you single out as the most important benefit of the service and why?
A: It would be hard to choose one above the rest. The thoroughness of the work – the efficiency of the account manager – the regular catch-ups which allow us to identify and fix anything that isn’t working perfectly…
Q: What words would you use to describe the service?
A: ‘Good team of professionals’ probably sums it up. Professionalism covers all the bases: training, integrity, reliability, you name it.
Q: What would you say if asked to recommend Glenn to another business?
A: I’d say that they’re a cleaning company that listens intently to your requirements, makes sure they understand them, and then bends over backwards to fulfill them.
Q: On a scale of one to ten (one is low, ten is high) how likely are you to recommend Glenn to someone else?
“I have worked with Glenn for over 10 years and I found that the secret to their success lies in recruiting, training and retaining staff of the highest calibre. They constantly strive to improve team efficiency and morale and I would recommend them to any Company wishing to improve on their current cleaning service. “
Meeting our client’s changing needs
Of course, the scope and nature of our client’s business have changed significantly over the years. For one thing, their premises have grown significantly in capacity, while modernization and innovation have placed new demands upon our cleaning and associated services.
We have taken these changes in our stride, developing our management team and training our on-site personnel to meet the increased size and complexity of the contract. Our aim is always to demonstrate initiative and flexibility in serving the changing needs of a thriving business in a fast moving environment.
As you might expect of an organisation that is itself a setter of standards, NHBC insists that its service providers adopt the highest standards in their own industries. And so we work to strict KPIs that are checked with the client every fortnight, using our bespoke auditing process.
Shared Social Responsibility
All employees who work on this contract are guaranteed at least the Living Wage. As a Living Wage employer, NHBC shares with us the belief that the payment of the Living Wage to all staff, both directly and indirectly employed, benefits workers and employers alike.
